America was divided during the Civil War. The two sides, the Union and the Confederacy, fought each other. The second battle of the war, called First Battle of Bull Run, took place in July, 1861. Bull Run is in Virginia, which was part of the Confederacy. At the beginning of the battle, the Confederate army was losing. Then, the Confederate soldiers saw one of their leaders, Thomas Jackson. Someone said he looked like a stone wall, brave and not fleeing the battle. From that description, he got the nickname "Stonewall" Jackson. The Confederate soldiers wanted to be brave like Jackson so they fought harder. They won the battle. This was the first major battle in the war.
