Babe Didrikson Zaharias was a great athlete. She won Olympic gold medals in three track events in 1932. She was also a basketball player and a golfer. She was not just any golfer. She won all the golf titles from 1940 to 1950. Her happy nature caused a lot of people to like golf. She was named Athlete of the Year six times in her life. In 1953, she found out she had cancer. She still played golf even though the doctors had said she would never play again. Twenty-two years after she won at the Olympics, she took first place at the United States Women's Open. She died in 1956 at the age of forty-five. Before she died, she and her husband created a trophy to honor women who are good at sports.
