Dog lovers may be able to find ideal pets from reputable dog breeders. However, many potential owners turn to breed rescue groups when they are ready to adopt new canine members of their households. Rescue groups are dedicated to rescuing and finding good homes for dogs that have been abandoned or left at animal shelters because their owners could no longer care for them. There are breed rescue groups for almost every breed imaginable, including basset hounds, akitas, malamutes, border collies, boxers, chihuahuas, labrador retrievers, and even wirehaired pointing griffons. Rescue groups attempt to find a safe, permanent home for a needy dog right away. If this is not possible, members of the group serve as foster owners until they can find appropriate long-term care. If you are interested in a certain breed of dog, consider contacting your local rescue organization. They will be more than happy to assist in adding a canine companion to your family.
