Do you know where flowers come from? About 70% of the flowers sold in the U.S. come from the country of Colombia. Colombia is located in South America. The country likes to celebrate its beautiful flowers with a festival. Known as the Feria de las Flores, the festival of the flowers takes place every year in the city Medellin. It has been happening in July since the 1950s. People make many kinds of flower arrangements to show off at the festival. Some of the arrangements are small and simple. Others look like famous paintings or people and can be 15 feet long! Along with looking at flowers, the festival offers other activities. The week-long festival has many concerts, craft sales, and parades. Not only is there a Grand Parade, but there is also an "Old Car Parade" and a "Horse Parade." People come from far and wide to see the flowers and enjoy the lively festival.
