The cake on the kitchen counter looked so good. Nate loved the cakes his mother made. The cakes were his favorite kind, chocolate. But he knew that the one on the counter was for supper. His mother had invited the new neighbors to supper. Nate liked the new neighbors, but he wished that the cake was all his. He moved closer to the counter. He could smell the chocolate. All he wanted was one little taste of icing. He raked his finger along the bottom of the cake. The icing tasted so good. Nate thought no one would know if he took one more taste. Just as his finger reached the cake, his golden retriever, Lucky, burst into the kitchen. He jumped on Nate. Nate felt his finger push into the side of the cake. Now there was a big hole in the cake. Lucky wagged his tail, but Nate didn't feel very happy.
