Sandra had long ago noticed that it takes forever to get to the beach. On this particular trip, she decided to find out why. She watched the boring landscape as they drove, listening to the drone of her parents' voices in the front seat. Evidently, the sky got bigger as you got closer to the beach. This must make the earth wider, too, she thought. In addition, she noticed that as the car got closer to the beach, the number of trees and hills dwindled. The road got longer. Finally, when they arrived at the shore in the afternoon, Sandra saw that the water seemed to pull away from the road a little bit farther every minute. At last, she knew why it took forever to get to the beach.
