Some people have allergies to certain foods. Their bodies think that the foods are harmful. As a result, people with food allergies can become very sick or break out in a rash. Eight foods account for 90 percent of all food allergies. They are eggs, milk, peanuts, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat, and tree nuts, including cashews and walnuts. Often, people with food allergies will have a reaction if they eat anything made with the allergen. For example, a person might eat a cookie that's been made with milk or eggs and have a reaction. Sometimes a person may outgrow an allergy, and it will go away. In this case, they can resume eating the food. The only safe way to determine this is to be tested at a doctor's office. It's very dangerous for a person with a food allergy to try this test by themselves because some allergic reactions can be severe.
