Dominic was always nervous before a race. His heart would pound. Sometimes he thought it would pound out of his chest. He would start to sweat too. But it was such a rush. He loved being on the track team. He loved the freedom he felt when he ran. He liked the wind in his face. He liked to hear the crowd cheer. But most of all, he liked to win. Dominic hoped today would be a winning day. He braced himself. It was almost time to start running. He steadied himself. He took his running stance. Then, suddenly, the pistol sounded. Dominic was off and running in a flash. He stared straight ahead. Nothing could distract him when he ran. He could only think of one thing. He could only think of crossing the finish line. And now he was almost there.
