Katie's mom could always tell when Katie wasn't telling the truth. Of course, she didn't have to use that talent often. Katie was rarely untruthful. One morning after breakfast, Katie told her mom that she wasn't feeling well. Katie said that maybe she should stay home from school. Her mom looked at her without saying anything. Katie grew nervous as her mom stared into her eyes. Then Katie's mom put her hand on Katie's forehead. She said she didn't think Katie had a fever. Katie shook her head. No, she didn't have a fever. Her mom asked her if her stomach hurt. Katie shook her head again. No, she didn't have a stomach ache either. Then Katie's mom asked her if she had finished her homework before going to bed. Katie admitted that she hadn't. Katie's mom knew why she didn't want to go to school.
