However, these five varieties are just a few of the different kinds of apples grown in the United States. Apples grow in every state in the United States. The states that grow the most apples are Virginia, Washington, New York, Michigan, California, and Pennsylvania. Over 7,500 kinds of apples are grown around the world. There are 2,500 kinds of apples grown in America. Imagine if the market tried to carry all those varieties of apples. Most of these special varieties can only be purchased directly from their growers. Most apples are picked by hand. Apples ripen in the fall.
