Trip to the Ballpark

Chris couldn't go to sleep. He wasn't tired. He couldn't even keep his eyes closed. A passing car's headlights made a white band of light swing across the ceiling. Chris sighed and rolled onto his side. Should he look at the clock? Instead he decided to think of relaxing things. He imagined lying in a baseball outfield. His skin felt warm from the sun. He could smell the freshly mown grass. Next he pictured floating quietly in a swimming pool. His ears were under the water, and all the sounds of kids splashing and playing were muffled. Then he imagined sitting in front of a roaring fireplace. The flames leapt and danced. He roasted a marshmallow on the end of a stick. He could see the white of the marshmallow turn light brown as it roasted. Then Chris opened his eyes. Sunlight streamed through the window. He looked over at the clock. It was time to get up.
