The Dead Sea is near Egypt. It is very salty. It has much more salt than the ocean. The salt comes from the nearby land. The land near the sea is all desert. Rivers feed the Dead Sea with fresh water. Their water also carries salt. The salt ends up in the Dead Sea. There are no outlet streams though. Water can only escape by evaporating. The salt is left behind. More and more salt gets into the sea. The shores are white with salt. Almost nothing can live in the Dead Sea. Only very small creatures can live there. That is why it is called the Dead Sea. The salt makes the water dense. It is so dense that people float on top of the sea.
