Lindsay Goes Swimming

This passage is about the first time Lindsay goes swimming in the ocean alone.

Lindsay thought the waves were big. Her brother Joe said they weren't. Lindsay was still worried though. She wanted to go swimming in the ocean. She'd never gone by herself before. She'd have to get by those big waves first. She took a few steps into the surf. The sand slipped away under her feet. She started in towards the waves. She saw one curling towards her and took a step back. She wanted to swim though. She headed back into the waves. The first few hit her hard. As she went in, they got smaller. Soon she was in a calm place. Waves were breaking farther out. Waves also broke closer in. The water swelled up as high as her chest at times. She ducked under the water and started swimming out towards the ocean.
