Most of their hike consisted of scrambling up rocks, hugging the mountain as they gradually climbed to elevations. When they reached the wall, they donned their climbing gear, ropes, harnesses, and shoes, and began picking their way up the 900-foot rock face. After scaling the wall, the trek to the summit seemed effortless. At the top they had lunch and watched as the clouds rolled in. Within minutes the mountain was enveloped in a veil of mist, making it difficult to see more than just a few feet ahead. Not knowing the way down, Lafi went ahead to scout the route. When he didn't return, Ivan went after him, leaving Miro, the least experienced climber, behind to wait. He waited for what seemed like hours. Just when Miro began to imagine the form his demise on the mountaintop might take, Lafi and Ivan popped out of the fog with smiles on their faces. "This way," they said as Miro heaved a sigh of relief.
