Can you imagine what it would be like to live in a cabin in the woods for a year by yourself? Well, Henry David Thoreau did just that. He wrote about it in his book. Thoreau wanted to see what it would be like if he got rid of all of the distractions in his life. He bought a small cabin outside of Boston in the mid 1800s. He lived in that cabin and fixed it up as the year went on. There was a pond near his cabin named Walden, which is where he got the title for his book. Eventually, Thoreau left his cabin because he felt like there were other things he should do with his life. His book about his experiences became very popular. As part of an American education, many students still read the book in school to see what Thoreau learned by living in a cabin in the woods.
