Jackie Robinson was a great baseball player. He was the first African-American to play in the major leagues. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. His first year in the major leagues was 1947. That year he won the Rookie of the Year award. The Rookie of the Year award is given to the best new player in the major leagues. Robinson was good at many sports. In college he played baseball, football, basketball, and track. Many major league players did not like Robinson because he was African-American. Some of his own teammates wouldn't talk to him. One teammate who was nice to him was Pee Wee Reese. They became friends. Robinson helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 1955. He quit baseball in 1956. In 1962 he was elected to the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is for the best baseball players ever. Robinson was the first African-American put in the Hall of Fame.
