A vegetarian is a person who does not eat meat. There are many reasons not to eat meat. In some countries, meat costs too much money. Some people avoid meat because of their religion. Others change their diet for health reasons. There are many types of vegetarians. Some eat dairy products and eggs. Some eat eggs and no dairy products. Others eat no animal products at all. This includes eggs, milk, and honey. They are called vegans, and they only eat food from plants. Vegetarians and vegans must plan their diet to get enough nutrients. Nuts, beans, eggs, and tofu provide protein. Iron is found in beans and dried fruit. Leafy green vegetables, milk, and tofu are sources of calcium. Zinc is found in cereals, beans, nuts, and soy products. Many vegans take vitamins D and B12. These vitamins are found only in meat and dairy products.
