Carly sat on her parents' bed, watching her mother. Her parents were going out to dinner, as they did almost every Friday night. Her father was downstairs watching the news. She could hear the muffled chatter of the newscasters. Her mother was applying her lipstick and staring into the mirror. Carly bounced over to her mother's closet. Carly watched as her mom gazed at the dress and started humming a song she'd never heard. "Come on, Carly," her mom said as she walked back to the mirror. "Help me with my hair." Carly smiled at her mom in the mirror. She looked beautiful.
