Most people who enjoy camping plan their trips for the summer or fall. But there are some people who enjoy nothing more than camping out in the winter. Winter camping can be a fun pastime if you know how to prepare for the special challenges it presents. In most parts of the United States, the temperatures are much colder during the winter months. That means winter campers have to dress to stay warm. Experienced winter campers dress in layers. That allows them to add or remove clothing to prevent either getting too warm while they are active, or getting cold when they are standing still. Winter campers also need to bring a warm sleeping bag and a sleeping pad to insulate them from the cold ground. If there is snow on the ground, winter campers will need boots that are insulated and waterproof. And no winter camper would ever leave home without a warm hat and a pair of insulated gloves.
