Blisters are bubbles in your skin that are filled with a liquid called serum, or sometimes even with blood. Blisters are often caused by friction, which is something rubbing against your skin, such as your shoe rubbing against your heel. Sunburn can cause your skin to blister too. Some diseases, infections, medicines, and chemicals cause blisters as well. However you get them, blisters can hurt! The best thing to do for a blister is to leave it alone. Don't try to pop a blister because germs could get in and infect it. Wash the blister and cover it with a soft bandage. At night, wash the blister with cold water and cover it with a non-stick bandage so it doesn't rub against your sheets. If you have blisters from sunburn, a cream or lotion might make you feel better. To prevent blisters on your feet, wear shoes that fit well. Protect your hands with gloves when raking or shoveling. If you're going on a hike or playing sports, wear thick socks to protect your feet, and always wear the right kind of shoe for your activity.
