The technology used today and known as the Internet started as a government military project to share information. As the technology developed, it went public and commercial, or for use by the general public. Today, the Internet is used as a clearing house for all types of information for people around the world. In order to be able to use the Internet, you must have a computer that is connected to the World Wide Web by a phone, modem, or cable line. This connection allows a user to send and receive letters, photos, or messages, as well as read the news and make purchases. The Internet made communication much easier between people who are great distances apart because information can be sent almost instantly over the Web to another person. Many people also use the Internet to see their friends and family in other countries by the use of web cameras.
