If you eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, chances are you've been to a farmer's market before. A farmer's market is a place where farmers, growers, and producers gather to sell their items directly to the public. In other words, there is no "middle man" between the farmer and the customer. Farmer's markets are usually held outside or in large, open buildings. Items you might find at a farmer's market include corn, broccoli, cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes, peaches, blueberries, jams, and flowers, among other things. Sometimes you can buy food cheaper at a farmer's market than at a grocery store because the farmer is able to sell it directly to you. The main reason people buy at farmer's markets, however, is for freshness and quality. Many people also enjoy shopping at farmer's markets because the food they are purchasing has been grown in the area in which they live.
