The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a span of sidewalk on Hollywood and Vine Streets in the city of Hollywood, California. It has more than 2,000 stars embedded in the sidewalk. Each star displays the name of a celebrity who has been honored for his or her work by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The first star was given to actress Joanne Woodward in 1960. Celebrities are nominated every year in May. Then, the Walk of Fame committee meets to vote on who will receive a star the following year. A ceremony is held in the celebrity's honor. Their star is unveiled at the ceremony. The ceremony is open to the general public. Over the years, four stars have been stolen from the Walk of Fame. They belonged to actors Jimmy Stewart, Kirk Douglas, Gregory Peck, and Gene Autry. The Walk of Fame attracts many tourists every year.
