Things had been difficult for Jenny's family since her father lost his job. Her mother's paycheck could cover the rent and put food on the table, but there was little left for anything else. To ease the family's financial situation, Jenny had hatched a clever idea. She spent the weekend with her grandmother and grandfather, gathering and recording their favorite recipes. Her grandfather carefully described the steps in canning his much-liked spicy tomato juice and the secrets to preparing his prize-winning strawberry ice cream. Her grandmother carefully scribed the recipes for her lemon pound cake, pecan pie, and other mouth-watering desserts. By the end of the weekend, Jenny had compiled over seventy recipes. She then made copies of her collection and bound them into booklets. Now Jenny was ready to start knocking on doors in hopes of collecting ten dollars for each of her homemade recipe books.
