Benjamin Franklin is a famous American. He was born in 1709. He did many things in his life. He was a scientist, a writer, and a statesman. He wrote for several newspapers. He also helped print several newspapers. He invented many things. He invented bifocal glasses. Bifocal glasses can be used to help see things far away and up close. He also invented the lightning rod. A lightning rod attracts lightning and can be used to protect buildings. Franklin figured out that lightning was an electrical charge. He did this by attaching a key to a kite. He flew the kite in a lightning storm. Franklin was a big supporter of the United States in the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War was the war where America became its own country. Franklin helped negotiate the peace treaty between the United States and Britain after the war.
