Leslie watched as the jump ropes turned over and over. Kiley, the best jumper in school, hopped up and down between two ropes. The children on the playground never let Leslie try to double dutch. They put her at the back of the line. She never made it to the front because others kept breaking in line. They told Leslie that they had called a turn next. Leslie missed her old school and her friends. She had moved so her father could take a new job. Leslie had only been in her new school two months, but it felt like two years. She was glad when recess was over. That afternoon, Leslie heard someone crying in the bathroom. It was Kiley. She was sick. Leslie ran and got the teacher. Kiley stayed home for a week. On the day she came back to school, Leslie heard someone call her name and turned around. Kiley was standing with the jump ropes, waiting for Leslie to come and take her turn.
