Bacteria are tiny organisms. They can make people sick. There are four steps to keep your food safe from these germs. They are cleaning, separating, cooking, and chilling. The best weapon against germs is soap and water. Always wash your hands before and after you cook. It's a good idea to clean up before and after you eat, too. Fruits and vegetables can get dirty and germy just like us. Rinse them off in running water before you eat them. Most bacteria are found in raw meat, chicken, fish, and eggs. You can keep safe by storing these items away from the rest of your food. To be extra safe, keep the raw meat and eggs in a separate section of your grocery cart. All meat and eggs should be cooked well. High temperatures kill germs. Storing food in the refrigerator is also important. Cold temperatures kill germs too.
