Emily leaned down to tie her cleats. In a few minutes, varsity soccer team tryouts would begin. Emily was only a sophomore, but she had been practicing for months, dribbling, shooting, passing, and felt she was good enough to make the team. She looked around at the other girls who were talking and joking with one another. Emily could not help but feel a little out of place. The coach blew the whistle to begin tryouts. At first, Emily was nervous and felt she was not performing well. During a dribbling drill, however, Emily noticed that she was one of the best ball-handlers on the field, and when running sprints at the end of tryouts, she was always among the first to finish. As Emily walked off the field, the coach shook her hand and said he was glad she tried out. Emily smiled. All of her hard work had paid off.
