Tommy's Bad Day

Tommy was having a bad day. First he spilled his bowl of cereal. Then he tripped on the stairs and hurt his knee. When he got to school, he realized that he had left his homework on the kitchen table. His teacher was upset with him. Now Tommy was home again. He was in a bad mood. When his mother asked him to set the table, he stomped out of the kitchen. When she asked him again, he grumpily did it. Right before he was about to sit down to dinner, he heard a scratch at the front door. When he opened the door, he looked down to see a gray kitten. The small animal looked up at him. Tommy picked it up. He carried it inside. He asked his mother if they could keep it. Tommy's mother thought for a while. Then she said it was okay. But she said they would have to take it to the vet. They had to make sure it was healthy. And she told Tommy the kitten would be his responsibility. Tommy looked down at the small animal in his hands. He smiled. It wasn't such a bad day after all.
