Mike revved the engine and released the brake, backing the mower out of the shed. It was time for the weekly lawn mowing. At first, he did not like being saddled with this chore, but over the past few weeks he had grown accustomed to it and actually found himself looking forward to mowing day. The time spent mowing gave him the opportunity to think about things, like deciding which college to attend, what to write about for his research paper in English, or how to go about asking the cute girl in history class to the prom. Mike also liked the sense of accomplishment he felt once the job was done. He would look back over the lawn and see the straight, trim rows of green and know that his father would be proud of the careful work he had done.
