Maryland was the seventh state to join the U.S. It is sometimes called the "Old Line State." Maryland's capital is Annapolis. The U.S. Naval Academy is in Annapolis. The Naval Academy is a school where they train people to be in the U.S. Navy. Baltimore is the biggest city in Maryland. The "Star Spangled Banner" was written in Baltimore. In western Maryland, the state is only two miles wide. The Chesapeake Bay is in the eastern part of Maryland. Many fishers catch crabs in the bay. Maryland sells a lot of seafood, like crabs. Many oysters are caught in Maryland.
