Categories: Animals & Nature

In autumn, the leaves turned violet and topaz instead of orange and yellow. The people wondered about the change. But they did not speak to each other about the leaves. For some reason, it seemed disrespectful. As the leaves fell in waves, they turned a darker blue and a deeper purple. Again, nothing was said about the color. They raked the leaves as they always had. They gathered them into damp piles. They burned them on the edges of the city. They glued them to pieces of wood for decoration at Halloween. The sunsets that year were especially red.
