Scientists recently held an out of this world discussion. What was their mission? Define what it means to be a planet. There was much debate before they came to an agreement. In the end, they decided that planets must orbit a star. Planets must be massive and nearly round in shape. They must have their own orbit. They push away everything in their "neighborhoods." This meeting was bad news for Pluto. Discovered in 1930, Pluto has proudly been the ninth planet in our solar system. After the meeting, Pluto lost its title. Now, there are eight planets. They are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Pluto was rejected because it isn't like the others. It is small. It has a strange tilt. It travels in an odd orbit among many other objects. While Pluto's glory days are over, it hasn't been forgotten. Scientists have given Pluto the special title "dwarf planet."
