Romulus and Remus were twin brothers. This means they have the same mother and were born on the same day. When they were small, they slept in a cradle. One day the cradle was placed in the Tiber River. The river carried the cradle to a tree. A mother wolf found Romulus and Remus there. She gave them food. Then, a shepherd saw the boys under the tree. A shepherd is someone who takes care of sheep. He took the boys home. The shepherd and his wife loved the boys and raised them for many years. When Romulus and Remus grew up, they were smart and strong. They won a great battle together. Next they wanted to build a city. They fought about where to build the city. Remus died in the fight. Then Romulus built the city. Next, he became the king of the city. The city was Rome.
