The Nile River is in Africa. It is the longest river in the world. It is over 4,000 miles long! Most rivers flow south. This river flows north. The end of the Nile River is in Egypt. This river was very important to the Ancient Egyptians. They used the river like a road. Boats on the river moved people and goods from town to town like cars on a road do today. In summer the Nile River flooded from June to October. When the flood started, people said the water turned red! The flood was good because it helped crops grow. Some years the river did not flood or flooded too much. This was bad. Crops did not grow. The people did not have enough food to eat. When the flood came, people were happy. They fished and played games. When the flood left, there was fresh soil for new crops.
