Ms. Thompson reminded everyone to put away books and papers as she passed out the week's math quiz. Miranda knew that she understood the material, but she did not know if she would be able to pass the quiz. Her anxiety level climbed before each test or quiz until she couldn't seem to remember anything. It was frustrating to work so hard to understand something but not be able to demonstrate her knowledge. It did not help a bit to have her parents and teachers tell her to relax. If Miranda knew how to relax, she probably would not have this problem. Just once, she thought, I'd like to make a good grade on a quiz. My mother would be so surprised and so proud of me. Miranda felt her heart accelerate as Ms. Thompson placed the quiz in front of her. She began to feel a little dizzy as she picked up her pencil to begin.
