If you are having trouble starting a writing project, you may benefit from some techniques that will help you generate ideas about your topic. One way to do this is to list everything you can think of about the subject. Do not try to organize your ideas at this point; just write whatever comes to mind. This method is sometimes called brainstorming. Another technique writers sometimes use is called clustering, which shows the relationships between ideas. Write your topic in the middle of the page and then surround it with any related ideas that occur to you. You can draw lines between ideas to show connections. Free writing is another method that can help you get started. It is similar to listing, but your ideas will be in paragraph form. However you choose to get started, your goal is to generate as many ideas as possible so that you will be able to choose the best of them for your writing project.
