Lily slowly rolled over. She was aware of the comfortable warmth of her bed. She squinted at the clock on her bedside table. Her eyes widened when she realized that she had overslept by half an hour. She had never overslept before. She threw the sheets back and jumped out of bed. For a few seconds she couldn't figure out what to do first. She needed to get dressed, do her hair, brush her teeth, grab something to eat, and pack her lunch. She decided to get dressed first. Because her heart was racing so fast, she found it difficult to catch her breath. Her fingers felt like rubber as she grabbed things she needed. She wondered why she had turned her alarm off. What had she been thinking? She worried about missing her bus. What would she do? How would she get to school?
