Amelia Earhart was a famous female pilot. She broke many flying records. She was the first woman to fly alone across the Atlantic Ocean. She set the record in May, 1932. She was the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. She flew from Hawaii to California. To stay warm during flight, she drank hot chocolate. She also wrote several books about flying. She wanted to be the first woman to fly around the world. She left on the 29,000 mile journey in 1937. She was only 7,000 miles short of her goal when her plane got lost at sea. The U.S. Navy searched the Pacific Ocean for more than two weeks. The Navy spent $4 million looking for her. It was the longest and largest search in the history of the Navy. To this day, no one knows what happened to Amelia Earhart.
