Most people know the name of the first man on the moon. His name is Neil Armstrong. However, not many know the name of the last man. He was American astronaut Eugene Cernan. In December 1972 Cernan left the final boot print on the surface of the moon. His parting words were, "We leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind." More than thirty years later, in 2006, officials at NASA, the U.S. space agency, announced that they were planning a return to the moon. NASA said that this time it wouldn't be sending a single team. Instead NASA plans to establish an entire colony. NASA hopes to begin construction on the colony by the year 2020 and have it fully staffed with rotating crews by 2024. NASA said that the base will serve as a permanent human outpost on the moon and provide a launching point for future explorations to Mars and beyond.
