In the history of pirates, no pirate is more legendary than Blackbeard. Blackbeard lived during what is called the Golden Age of Pirates. During this time, piracy was at its height. Pirates would stop other ships by force. The pirates would then board the ships and take anything of value. Blackbeard commanded over 250 men on two boats. He patrolled the Atlantic Ocean. His favorite places to port his boats were Ocracoke, North Carolina, and Nassau, Bahamas. The stories people told about Balckbeard during his time were probably scarier than he was in reality. He is said to have had guns and swords in belts all over his body. Some legends even claim that he would have matches woven into his beard that he would light in battle. It is hard to determine what is true, but it is clear that his legend made him more feared than any other pirate.
