We divide the year into seasons by weather patterns. Most of the United States has four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall. In other places, people don't divide the year into four seasons. That is because they don't have the same sort of weather patterns. In some areas, they divide the year into a rainy season and a dry season. This is the case in most tropical and subtropical areas. In these areas, the amount of rainfall, or precipitation, is dramatically different at different times of the year while the temperature remains unchanged. In other tropical areas, they divide the year into three seasons. They have the hot season, the rainy season, and the cool season. In other parts of the world, they divide the seasons loosely around special events like hurricane season or tornado season. People divide the year into seasons based upon the weather they experience around them.
