Brandon didn't like being shy, but he didn't know what to do about his feelings. It wasn't that Brandon didn't like people, because he did. But he always felt so awkward and unsure around strangers that he found it hard to talk to someone he didn't know. His palms would start to sweat, and he could feel his face getting hotter and hotter. The more he thought about the way he was feeling, the harder it was for Brandon to control himself. Sometimes Brandon would turn down invitations to parties so he wouldn't have to put himself through the experience. If he did go to a party, Brandon would make sure that he was always standing close to someone he knew. One day a stranger asked Brandon a question about computers. Brandon knew a lot about computers, so the two started talking. Brandon realized later that when he felt confident, he didn't think about being shy.
