Lightning never strikes twice in the same spot, right? Wrong! Lightning bolts strike skyscrapers, sometimes many times, during the same storm, and some people have even been struck three times by lightning. Even though lightning is hotter than the surface of the sun, not all lightning strikes are fatal. The reason some people survive being struck by lightning is because a strike happens so quickly. However, many people have been killed or severely injured by lightning. Lightning is created when a charge builds up inside a cloud. The lightning bolt is the discharge of this build up of electricity. The different types of lightning are "ground-to-cloud" lightning, "cloud-to-ground" lightning, "ball" lightning, "cloud-to-air" lightning, and "in-cloud" lightning.
