Sports cheaters try all kinds of tricks to win. Rosie Ruiz won the Boston Marathon in 1980. She did not seem tired. She was not sweaty. Yet, she had run a record race time. That time was two hours, thirty-one minutes, and fifty-six seconds. It was only the second race she had run. People began to ask how she could have done so well so fast. A lot of pictures and videos had been shot along the race route. Ms. Ruiz was not in any pictures until the last half-mile of the route. Finally, some people said that they had seen her run onto the road about a half mile from the race's end. She had not run the other twenty-six miles. The Boston officials took away her title. What about the first race she had run? That race had been the New York City Marathon. It had been easy for her too. Soon everyone knew why. She had ridden the subway in New York City for part of that race.
