By the time Lauren was twelve years old, she had lived in three different U.S. states, one U.S. territory, and two foreign countries. Lauren's dad was an officer in the Marines. Every time he was assigned to a new duty post, Lauren and her mom moved with him. Lauren was happy that she had the chance to meet new people and learn about new cultures. After spending all of her life moving from place to place, she had learned to look forward to experiencing new things. Even though it was hard to say good-bye to her friends, Lauren knew that she'd make new ones wherever she went. When Lauren found out that her dad was retiring from the military and planned to settle down in one place, she wasn't sure she would be able to adjust. But then she realized that adjusting was what she knew how to do best.
