Riding a bike can be a great way to get around town. Always ride in the same direction as traffic and use hand signals to let cars know which way you're going. Hand signals for a cyclist are like turn signals and brake lights for a car. Since you're riding on the shoulder of the road, always use your left hand to make the signals. If you plan to turn right, hold your upper arm out and parallel to the road with your forearm and hand straight up at a right angle. To turn left, put your arm and hand out straight from your side and parallel to the road. If you plan to stop, hold your upper arm out and parallel to the road with your forearm and hand down at a right angle. Cars don't always see cyclists, so be sure to always wear your helmet and ride with extra care.
