Big trucks and SUVs can use quite a bit of fuel though. For drivers who want good gas mileage, a smaller car or truck will usually be the best choice. To figure out gas mileage, divide the number of miles traveled (shown on the odometer) by the number of gallons of gasoline it takes to fill up the tank. That number is the miles per gallon. The higher the number, the better the fuel efficiency. Engineers are studying different types of fuel, and now there are even cars powered by ethanol and electricity.
