Buying a car can be a tough decision. There are so many kinds of vehicles to choose from, including pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles (SUVs). An SUV is a cross between a car and a pickup truck; more people and stuff will fit inside these larger vehicles, and four-wheel-drive models can go off-road with ease. Big trucks and SUVs can use quite a bit of fuel though. For drivers who want good gas mileage, a smaller car or truck will usually be the best choice. To figure out gas mileage, divide the number of miles traveled (shown on the odometer) by the number of gallons of gasoline it takes to fill up the tank. That number is the miles per gallon. The higher the number, the better the fuel efficiency. Engineers are studying different types of fuel, and now there are even cars powered by ethanol and electricity.
