Before the Industrial Revolution changed the way people lived and worked throughout the entire civilized world, nomads were much more common. Nomads are people who do not have a home but constantly move from place to place to find their livelihoods. Agricultural nomads farm land for short periods of time, moving as the seasons change in order to find hospitable growing conditions and grazing land for their domesticated animals. When the weather begins to change, they pack up their belongings, harvest their crops, and herd their livestock to the next place. Other nomads hunt for their food, following certain kinds of animals as they migrate during the course of the year. Both of these nomadic practices are good for the environment because they do not deplete the natural resources in any one place. Another kind of nomad, commonly called a gypsy, leads a more urban life, peddling various wares in many towns and cities.
